There's a new business venture I announced via my email newsletter yesterday (sign up on the right hand sidebar if you would like to get my once a month-ish newsletter!). A new shop has opened here in Portsmouth called The Wilson Collective. I'll be teaching one-on-one and group sewing lessons there! What is The Wilson Collective? When you first enter, you see an art gallery and a framing studio. But if you look to the right, it's also a yarn and knitting supply shop. All yarn is naturally hand-dyed in house. You can buy some of my products like the circular needle case, sewing supply kit, or a divided project bag. Within this beautiful space, is also a Makers Studio--the part I'm most excited to tell you about today. The shop owners created this as a place to come and take classes in a variety of handmade arts. You can take a knitting class. Or a shibori textile class. Or a yarn-painting/dyeing class. Or, now you can take sewing classes with me! I'm offering three classes at the moment, more as interest grows. When you take a class from me, you get to work in this beautiful space, learn sewing techniques, gain confidence with your sewing machine, create a lovely finished product, and go home with a pattern designed by me to make more on your own (usually with adaptations to make a variety of sizes). Available time slots are 10am-12pm, 1-3pm, (through the end of the school year), and 6-8pm throughout the year. Classes available now:
Also--we are offering a kids summer sewing camp! Details are still being finalized, but the camp will run August 3-7, from 9am-12pm. The focus of the week is "Fashion Sewing for your Favorite 18" Doll." Wink-wink--you all know which doll I mean, but can't say...We will make doll outfits and accessories, a skirt for the participant, and will have a fashion show on the last day. Girls will go home with patterns to make more outfits on their own, all materials will be provided. Registration is ongoing for all classes, so email me to request a time slot (karenkatin[at]yahoo[dot]com). If you have a few friends and would like to run a group class, I am happy to arrange that too!
