What do you call yourself?

Usually, I have trouble explaining my work without some raised eyebrows. What's my title?

Business owner. Bag designer. Pattern writer. Sewing teacher. Work-at-home-Mom. Fabric enthusiast. It's difficult to sum up into an elevator speech, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot recently.

Then there are all of the many hats I have to wear while running my business. ​​Photographer. Bookkeeper. Accountant. Copy writer/editor. Web publisher. Saleswoman. Blogger. Marketing manager. Graphic designer. Social media manager. Shipping coordinator. Customer Service Rep. Creative director. Big girl pants-wearer. Seamstress.

It's this last one I want to talk about a bit more. If you like to sew, whether it's a hobby or profession, what do you call yourself?

Some of these terms are straightforward if you like to make just one thing, like quilts. You can call yourself a quilter. What am I? I'm still not sure, and I've been sewing for over 30 years! I am not overly fond of "sewist." "Seamstress" leaves out the men, and "sewer" looks too much like the pipes underground. "Creator of fabric things" kind of sort of fits best.
